crowd
古英語の crūdan（押す、急ぐ）に由来し、ゲルマン語派の語源を持つ。オランダ語の kruien（手押し車で押す）と関連している。中英語では「押して動く」「押し進む」という意味が生まれ、そこから「集まる」という意味になり、16世紀中頃に名詞として使われるようになった。
