interest
「interest」は中世後期の英語（元はinteress）に由来し、アンゴ・ノルマンフランス語のinteresseから来ています。これは中世ラテン語のinteresse（債務者の不履行に対する補償）に由来し、さらにラテン語のinteresse（異なる、重要である）から派生しています。interesseはinter-（間に）＋esse（存在する）から成り、-tは古フランス語のinterest（損害、損失）との関連で加えられました。元の意味は「何かの権利や持分の所有」であり、interestの意味は17世紀中頃に生まれ、動詞としての対応する意味は18世紀初頭に現れました。
