pipe
古英語の pīpe は「楽器の管」を意味し、pīpian は「笛を吹く」を意味します。これはゲルマン語起源で、オランダ語の pijp やドイツ語の Pfeife と関連しています。ラテン語の pipare（さえずる、鳴く）に由来し、中英語では古フランス語の piper（さえずる、きしむ）によって強化されました。
